About OutQuorum
“Numbers don’t tell the story, humans do.” — Todd Sears
OutQuorum is Out Leadership's global initiative to advance LGBTQ+ representation on corporate boards. Launched in 2015, it works from a simple premise: what gets measured gets managed — and what isn’t measured doesn’t count. Boards disclose what investors ask about, and until recently, almost no company told its shareholders whether any director was LGBTQ+. When Out Leadership first read every Fortune 500 proxy in 2015, exactly two companies included LGBTQ+ people in their definition of board diversity. By 2024, 155 did.
Our first full study, "Visibility Counts" (2021/22), put numbers on the visibility gap. The OutQUORUM 2026 report cycle dataset behind this site — reading 2025–26 filings — is our most comprehensive yet: 10 stock indices across the US, UK, Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan, and Hong Kong, tracked across 7 diversity dimensions, with a hand-verified 2024 baseline and audited 2025–26 detection. Earlier reports and our board diversity guidelines are collected on the research page.
Measurement was never the end in itself. When companies told us they didn’t have LGBTQ+-inclusive diversity policies, we wrote them for them — first-ever guidelines for the US (with KPMG, 2017), the UK and Australia (2023), and Hong Kong (2024). The Nasdaq cited OutQUORUM research seven times in the SEC application for its board diversity rule.
Out Leadership is the world's premier LGBTQ+ business network, working with CEOs and senior leaders at major global companies to drive equality forward as a business opportunity. Learn more at outleadership.com, or read the full Out Leadership story, 2010–2026.
There is no organization more committed to advocating for LGBTQ+ board representation than Out Leadership.
Jim Fitterling opened the door. When he came out, it was one of the very first times you had an LGBTQ+ person named as a CEO of a Fortune 100 company. Those doors that were opened were then held open for people like me.
